The 33 Kannon of Aizu No.25 Ryoke Kannon-Do

Jorakuji was built in 1249 by a Tsunenobu, a monk of Mino Province (modern-day Gifu). Afterwards, Priest Rokusei Mokkin opened Ryumonji Temple in Omatakubo. From around 1558-1570, the temple had a territory of 30 kanmon, and was rich in assets.

The actual hall has been lost; however, the Kannon-do Hall that exists today was built in 1831, with a pyramidal roof, iron plate shingles, ketayuki-sanken (three ken in the length of the beam), and harima-sanken (three ken in the length of the crossbeam).

The statue of the principal deity enshrined here, the Eleven-faced Kannon, is 136cm high. Other deities, including the Amitabha Buddha, Jizo (Ksitigarbha), the Four Heavenly Kings, and the head of Gautama Buddha are also enshrined here.
